Mary Sellaro

Mary Sellaro has been a professional dog trainer since 1990.

Her primary motivation is to educate dogs’ human families on understanding dog behavior, building lifelong relationships, and ultimately keeping dogs out of shelters.

Mary has trained dogs from the puppy level through off-leash obedience, therapy dog training, Canine Good Citizen testing and prep, and aggression.

Mary is a certified Canine Good Citizen Evaluator with the American Kennel Club.

Currently, her primary focus is on behavior, companion, and therapy dog training and working with their families.

Mary’s background includes eight years as the Director of Training at a locally owned dog daycare, three years co-owning a dog daycare and training facility, and working in a veterinary clinic and as a professional groomer.

She was the company-wide Director of Pet Education at Pete and Mac’s Pet Resorts for 6 years, managing and developing the training program for 10 locations nationwide.

Mary has been involved with pet therapy as an Evaluator for over 25 years. For over ten years, she was an evaluator for Pets for Life, inc, a local pet therapy group.

Since 1995, she has been the Temperament Test Evaluator for the Children’s Mercy Hospital’s Pet Pals Program.

Scarlett Egerton

Behavior Dog Trainer

Scarlett Egerton began her dog training journey in the early 2000s through an apprenticeship with Mary Sellaro, founder of KC Dog Works.

While working in a busy veterinary clinic, Scarlett discovered her passion for training and behavior, combining hands-on animal care experience with a growing commitment to helping dogs and their people succeed together.

Over the past 20 years, Scarlett has continued her work in veterinary medicine while also teaching and substituting obedience classes for dogs of all ages and skill levels.

She has been a longtime instructor with Oak Grove Parks and Recreation, where she has taught obedience classes for two decades, helping countless families build stronger relationships with their dogs.

In addition to her teaching and veterinary experience, Scarlett has also assisted in evaluating dogs for therapy work, helping assess canine temperament, handler skills, and team readiness for successful therapy visits. This experience reflects her keen eye for behavior and her ability to recognize the qualities that make dogs safe, confident, and effective in public service roles.

Scarlett’s combined background in veterinary care and dog training gives her a practical, compassionate approach to working with both dogs and owners.

She believes that knowledge is empowering, and that educating people about canine behavior strengthens the bond between animals and the humans who love them.
